Armin van Buuren marks another year of stunning tunes and memories made with the release of the latest A State of Trance Year Mix!

Armin van Buuren punched another year of A State of Trance memories with fans. After touching on the incredible achievement of 1000 episodes of his weekly radio show, no one was quite sure what was next. Sadly, the celebration in The Netherlands is yet again postponed due to COVID-19, but that does not mean the celebration slowed down. Today, the A State Of Trance Year Mix – a celebratory mix of all the biggest tunes of the year on the radio show – has arrived to cap off the annual musical experience before Armin announces the year’s top tracks.

The 18th A State Of Trance Year Mix is here and features over 100 total tracks spread across the two hours of the mix. The entire mix features a venerable who’s who from the Armada Music roster and a huge amount of classic talent as well. York, Kyau & Albert, Cosmic Gate, Giuseppe Ottaviani, and Armin van Buuren himself all square off in the mix, while rising stars AVIRA, Kryder, Tom Starr, Tinlicker, and Factor B all contribute to the mix as well.

Beyond the raw talent, we also find some changing of the times in the mix. One example is the impact of techno and the slower melodic sounds exemplified by Fergie’s inclusion. Another is the continued joy that classic melodies bring in new packages. Examples of this include Marten de Jong’s remix of Coast 2 Coast and Discovery’s “Home,” Paul van Dyk’s shiny new remix of Energy 52‘s “Café Del Mar,” and Tinlicker’s fabled retouch of the late Robert Miles‘ “Children.”

Why are both of these important? One – the continued evolution of dancefloors relies on artists finding new ways to engage crowds. The second – nostalgia is huge right now after the global lockdown, making the feel-good moods of millennium-era trance ripe for retouches.
